A backwater valve lets wastewater out but blocks sewer water from coming back into your basement during heavy rain or a municipal sewer surge. It is the main protection against sewer backup.
Toronto requires a building permit, and the valve must pass City inspection.
The City's subsidy covers up to 80% of the invoice, to $1,600 per valve (maximum two valves).
Consider an alarm so you know when the valve closes. While it is closed, water used in the house can back up in the basement.
We assess your lines first so you get the right valve in the right spot.
