What you must do to qualify

• Own the property (registered owner).
• Use a contractor with a valid City of Toronto business licence.
• A backwater valve needs a building permit and must pass City inspection.
• Apply within two years of finishing the work (one year if the work was done before November 12, 2025). Expanded amounts apply to work completed on or after November 12, 2025.
